Mimesis: Night of the Living Dead

Overly complicated head scratching title aside this concept really sounded original, new and exciting to me. Two good friends on a trip to a horror convention somehow get trapped along with other con patrons in an alternate world where they are cast to relive the George A. Romero classic Night of the Living Dead! I can't tell you what an immense good time that would be until shit gets real and a walking sack of maggots starts chewing on you or your friend's vitals. Not so much fun anymore.
Now from the start to about a third of the movie this is a good zombie film, not great by any means, but certainly good. Something happens at that point though, I won't spoil it because it really tossed me on my ass, but this thing picks up speed and takes off like a fucking nuclear missile somehow making the slower start of the film, easier to digest. The character's aren't anything special as it's mostly convention tag alongs (not true fans) who wake up in this nightmare, but rest assured there is a purpose for everything. Smart, fun, and soaked in gore Mimesis is a one of a kind tasty treat for the undead eyes. Hell I'll even go one step further and label this bitch "Groovy!"

P.S. I saw this flick get bashed a lot across the internet as the trailer had music by the self proclaimed most hated band in the world the Insane Clown Posse and ended claiming the film itself also featured music by ICP. Now my thoughts on ICP aside I can tell you for better or worse there is only one ICP song in the whole damn thing and it doesn't play till the end credit crawl. So if their music was keeping you from seeing this flick, suck it up buttercup nobody is forcing you to sit through the credits unless you watch it with me; in which case you will watch the credits and enjoy the credits and not talk through the credits. :)

13 Questions! With KidCrusher

First of all i'd like to thank KidCrusher for taking a few moment's of his time to answer these questions and hope to see him in North America one day.
KIDCRUSHER
Shawn “KidCrusher” Montague is an Australian Made producer, vocalist, guitarist, drummer, film director, editor, live promoter, performer, actor, web-designer, radio host, former backyard wrestler from Adelaide, South Australia. KidCrusher performs a style of hardcore metal hip hop and is known for its elaborate live performances. Often compared to acts like Insane Clown Posse, Slipknot, Marilyn Manson, The Berzerker, Cradle Of Filth & Korn. The band combines many musical styles such as Dubstep, Death Metal, Hip Hop, Shock Rock and Industrial music.

1- What was your first experience with horror, and at what age?

I wouldn't be able to pick which age I was, but it was young, my earliest memory of a horror movie as a kid that gave me the shits was called The Gate. I struggled to ever sit through it, took me years to finally see it from start to finish, looking back on it now I wonder why I was so freaked about it, obviously its meant to scare little kids haha. its one of my favorite movies now as it gave me that scar as a kid. I own both of the movies in my dvd collection and I've sampled them in my music a couple times.

2- What attracted you to horror initially?
horror movies = because it was so restricted for me to see as a kid, I can't stand not knowing whats in the box. The cheap adrenalin thrill you get never gets old.

3- What is your favorite horror film new and old?
Old = Tremors 1 & 2... New = Cloverfield

4- Do you have a favorite subgenre like Slasher, Zombies, B-movie, etc…?
I would have to say creature/alien movies

5- Are there any films or subgenres you really do not like?
I don't watch many B-grade movies, some of them are alright but a lot of them piss me off.

6- What is the last horror film you saw? What did you think of it?
Adam Chaplin, probably one of the most epic gore flicks i've seen since Braindead. really amazing scenery too.

7- Do you have a most prized item from the Horror Genre?
no not really, i dont collect much memorabilia.

8- What’s your favorite Horror themed video game?
Resident Evil has always been a game I ocassionally play. I don't play games much, I go through phases of thrashing it out for weeks then leaving it alone for months.

9- Are you a fan of the Horror remakes or do you think they should just leave what’s not broken the way it is?
I always like to see more in remakes, saying they reuin the original is just a stuipid excuse, because I always like to see what else they can do with the topic. Like "Nightmare on Elm St"... Sure Robert Englund is the best freddy, but the new movie was still epic. I love prequels as well, "The Thing" has got to be a highlight for me at the moment... just how they connected so many dots to the original was amazing. Really looking forward to the "Evil Dead" remake as well.

10- If you were cast in a horror movie and could choose any role for yourself, would you be The Victim, The Bad Guy, or the Hero? And why?
KidCrusher has always played so many roles in my music, I can never make my mind up which side he's on... he would probably make a better bad guy, but he's often killing bad guys too, so a bit of everything.

11- (The Classics) Who would you invite to your birthday party first Jason, Freddy, or Michael or Other?
Always been a fan of Jason, but i highly doubt any of them would be interested in celebrating a birthday. maybe a deathday?

12- (Newer) Who would you invite to your birthday party first Victor Crowley, The Orphan Killer, Stitches The Clown, or Other?
Tucker & Dale.... that'd make one doozey of a day.

13- Do you have anything else you’d like to say about the Horror Genre? Or to any of your fan’s reading this?
I've been working on a short music video movie for my upcoming album Metal Murder 3D,, its not as long as I wanted it to be, but it was fun as hell to make. Not sure when its dropping yet, but hopefully before the end of the year.

Bonus Question
Are there any Australian Horror movie's that stand out in your mind, that we may have missed over here in North America?
The Loved Ones, thats all i can really think off the top of my head.
