The story of Harley Poe is a strange one to say the least, especially given the themes of their songs. Lead singer Joe Whiteford originally fronted a Christian band which would eventually lead to the conception of the signature mash up of classic folk and acoustic punk that defines Harley Poe. When the monster mash themes of the band's music didn't jive with the Christian record label they called home, the soon to be Harley Poe was cast out and lucky for us free to make their supposed Devil music on their own terms. Satan, Sex, and No Regrets is the newest album by the group and features 11 dark, disgusting, and often hilarious tracks featuring cannibals, monsters, and more!
1 - Still Here - A laid back song about being alive chilling with the ones you love, while the dead lay cold and dormant in their tombs.
2 - Everybody Knows My Name - A song from the point of view of Satan proudly accepting every negative thing that happens to every single person in the world.
3 - Ima Killer - The confessions of a killer as he stalks the object of his obsession.
4 - Father Mckee - This track is a hilarious take on a controversial theme. There's many songs that provide social commentary on the molestation of children by priests, but this might be the only one where the child actually enjoys it, and even gets jealous when another boy gets molested by the same priest!
5 - Transvestites Can Be Cannibals Too - Cannibals and transvestites have come breasts to sausage
since Ed Gein danced under the moon wearing his mother's skin, and probably even before that.
This song once more celebrates the tradition as a closet transvestite hunts for his/her next meal.
6 - The Hearse Song - If you recognize the words to this song, good or bad your child hood kicked a little bit of ass! This is the awesome poem from the classic book Scary Stories to Tell in the Dark sung out and set to that catchy Harley Poe sound!
7 - Taxidermy Girl - A man stalks his cheating wife for one last mount.
8 - That Time Of the Month - The similarities between the cycle of the lycanthrope and the cycle of menstruation are discussed.
9 - I Am the Living Dead - View the world through a zombie's rotting eyes.
10 - Vampire's Night Out - Vampire's have been synonymous with a sex symbol ever since Dracula wooed the fiancee of one Jonathan Harker. This vampire has no interest in love, just a playa with a blood thirst.
11 - Ouija - The closing track is about doing something different for a change. Bored with drugs and booze the group uses a Ouija to get their party kicks!
I can't get enough of this album, it's really different than anything I'm used to listening to and it's insanely catchy! Highly Recommended!
